Vication discernment process for women to begin Sept. 30

By CET

TYLER – A 10-month vocation discernment process for women begins Sept. 20 at Wellspring Center for Spirituality in Tyler.

It is open to women ages 16-30, who will meet with a team of religious sisters from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. every third Sunday of the month to discern their personal response to Christ’s call to married, single or consecrated life, said Sister Angélica Orozco, EFMS.

She and sisters from three other religious communities lead the program, which has been offered free of charge by the Tyler Diocese since 2005. Three women have entered religious life as a result, Sister Angélica said.

“This (program) is important to our diocese because it provides young women an opportunity to explore and learn about the value of consecrated life in the world today,” as well as have a deeper understanding about the call to married life and single life, she said.

Monthly sessions consist of prayer, field trips, small group-sharing, activities and presentations. A three-day retreat was added to the program last year when St. Joseph Church in Marshall offered use of a former convent on the church property. A similar event is planned next summer with the completion of the program.
